Local Housing

The Medway towns have a long historical association with the Royal Navy. The economy of Medway depended upon serving the dockyards and given the nature of the demands of the yards generated reasonable earnings but not great wealth. The area was generally insular and the transport infrastructure in Victorian times in Kent was scant. Consequently, housing stock was limited in the main to two and three bedroomed terraced properties.

The establishment of Thames Gateway opened up over 500 acres of developable land and many of the 30,000 new homes allocation has been built. St Mary’s Island is the largest single development, providing homes for over 5,000 people in apartments and houses ranging from 2 to 5 bedrooms. Values indicate that these properties are targeted for families. The research shows sales up to £775,000.
